We hosted a baby shower for our cousin a few weeks ago. One of my favorite baby shower cookies are these little elephants that we’ve created, and that inspired the theme of the party – baby elephants everywhere! We also wanted to have a cake as a centerpiece to match the elephants. The cake was a four-layer dark chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream on the outside. We created the ombre effect by applying each color layer and then blending them gradually. The elephant cookies were on display next to the guestbook (we had a cute little Dr. Seuss book everybody signed), as favors for people to take on their way out.

Beyond Pie: The Thanksgiving Turkey Cookie Platter

Thanksgiving Turkey Platter CookiesI’ve been wanting to try a turkey platter for awhile now, after seeing these created by a few cookie idols of mine. But I wanted this one to be a little different. We had created some leaves last year that had just the same look I was going for, so the only thing left to decide was whether the feathers should be color-separated, or just placed randomly. I went for random and quite like the effect!

The beauty of this is that as everyone eats the feather cookies, you can just re-arrange them to keep the display perfect throughout your Thanksgiving celebration. That is, if they don’t get all eaten at once!

Baby Elephants to Welcome a Bundle of Joy

Our latest cookie project was one of our favorites – blue elephants for a baby shower. These little guys were simple to make, but had so much personality!  We wrapped them individually and finished them off with a bow, making them perfect for favors for guests who attended the shower. Now all we need to do is name this little guy!

A Texas Wedding with Mint and Lace

Lace Texas and Monogram Cookies / © Dallas Bakes! 2013We recently made cookies for wedding welcome baskets, and what better way to say “Welcome to Dallas” than with Texas cookies? With hand-piped lacework, we made these mint Texas cookies to match the bride and groom’s shabby chic theme along with monogrammed circle cookies with icing pearl dots.

Best wishes to the newlyweds!

Baking Through The Holidays

The holidays may be long gone, but through the chaos of shopping, wrapping and tradition, we found time to squeeze in a little baking.  Because you can’t show up at a holiday party empty-handed!  For Thanksgiving, we created pumpkin and fall leaf cookies, perfecting simplicity and exploring new techniques. For Christmas, we found that the perfect ice blue makes a huge difference in our detailed snowflake cookies and that a basic tree design can still impress.
